Musical Shape Shifters
The Beaver Moon Band was formed in October 2020, during the Pandemic. The musicians met at various times in Chicago and started playing outside gigs for friends and fun. Lead singer Amy Kelly, met Drummer Paul Rzewuski and Bassist Jon Richter in the early 1990's and together, they formed two bands: the BlueSoles, a 90's R&B cover band; and the Underbelly Band, a rock n' roll cover band, mixed with eclectic originals, which formed in the early 2000's.
Amy’s powerful and compelling voice really captivates an audience and she can whip a crowd into a frenzy. She is raw potent talent, cut with professionalism and class. Amy has electrified crowds at some of Chicago’s finest stages such as House of Blues, The Hideout, B.L.U.E.S on Halsted, Carol's Pub, and Buddy Guys Legends, as well at local bars and street festivals. Her incredibly soulful vocal style was influenced heavily by Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt and Patsy Cline.
Paul and Jon have been playing together for over 30 years in some of Chicago biggest venues, toured Europe with Chicago Blues greats, Big time Sarah and Syl Johnson, and have played many of Chicago’s outdoor festivals. Together, they are a hypnotic, groove inducing rhythm section, who got their start with Paul's Dads wedding band when they were in Junior High!
Guitarist, Sweet Lou Hallwas, formally of The Differents, Penthouse Sweets and Material Reissue, joined the BMB in October 2020. Sweet Lou brings his soulful energy to the band, mixed with his eclectic playing style.
Collectively, these musicians bonded over their shared passion for sound, rhythm and beats and for the past 4 years have been playing local pubs, street festivals, private parties and events. Each member brings a diverse and unique musical aesthetic to the band and over the years, have grown comfortable jumping genres and mashing up influences. This formidable ensemble is the house band for Jarvis Square Tavern and plays a monthly residency there last Friday of the month. The Beaver Moon Band has a substantial following and is in demand for club, festival and touring work.
